We held our subcommittee on February 20th, 2018 at 7:00 pm. at United Against Poverty located at 150 W. Michigan Street, Orlando, FL 32806. We opened the meeting with a moment of silence followed by the Serenity Prayer. The 12 Traditions and H&I Purpose were both read. There were 20 returning members present.
We are currently taking in 12 presentations into 7 different clearance facilities and 12 presentations into 10 different non-clearance facilities with a combined total of 31 panel leaders covering these 24 commitments at this time. Some commitments have co-chairs so that is why there are more panel leaders than commitments.
We currently have 11 open commitments at clearance facilities and 15 open commitments at non-clearance facilities. Please keep in mind that most of these facilities have multiple presentations on our listing as some facilities request more than one weekly meeting from our H&I subcommittee. With that being said, only 3 clearance facilities and 5 non-clearance facilities do not have 6 month panel leader commitments, but 2 of the clearance facilities have a once a month volunteer in the meantime. We are hopeful more commitments will be filled in the near future as more and more new members come to our subcommittee and former members return.
One Seminole County Clearance Form has been submitted by a member since our last subcommittee meeting. Three members attended orientation. Two new panel leaders were voted in to 6 month commitments.
We thoroughly discussed and voted to add the Salvation Army on Colonial Drive to our facilities listing and are arranging a new facility presentation at this time. There are lots of interested members willing to help service this new addition.
We voted to contribute IPs to the John Polk Correctional Facility’s Monthly Symposium in order to assist the PR subcommittee with stocking this event. Due to the nature of this event, NA’s presence there can be for the community and for the addicts about to leave. If only PR is there because someone from our subcommittee cannot attend, then their literature is going to be depleted by the addicts about to be released.
We voted to add the IP “Living the Program” to our literature order form to be made available to long-term facilities only.
We are placing a literature order today in order to replenish our stock.
Fortunately, all of our admin team and panel coordinator positions are filled!
Concerns or Needs
We need more NA members with clearance to be support to our existing panel leaders at Osceola, Orange and Seminole county jails and other correctional facilities so that there are more speaker options and panel opportunities for these facilities. Please spread the word that just because someone has a record, this does not guarantee denial for approval by the County Volunteer Coordinators.
Our next meeting will be held on the third Tuesday, March 20th, at 7:00 p.m. with orientation being held promptly beforehand at 6:30 p.m. at United Against Poverty located at 150 W. Michigan Street, Orlando, FL 32806.
