ASC date: 4/14/2013
Meeting date: 3/19/2013 @ 7:00 pm
Members present: 26 + 3 new members who attended orientation
Location: First Christian Church of Orlando
We opened the meeting with a moment of silence followed by the Serenity Prayer. The 12 Traditions, H&I purpose and clarity statement were read.
General Report: We currently have 21 facilities on the contact list. 23 H&I presentations are being taken into these facilities. We have 12 openings on our contact list at this time. Please come and show your support to our AREA by taking a presentation in to a facility
Elections: Richard A. was introduced as the subcommittee chair elected at the last AREA meeting.
Concerns or Needs: An adhoc committee was created to clarify existing H&I policy, and to recommend changes or additions to the policy. The intent is to provide a safe and spiritual environment to work out possible differences of opinion, and better serve the groups by keeping these distracting discussions outside of the normal H&I Subcommittee meeting. Members are strongly encouraged to keep discussions concerning H&I policies within the adhoc, until resolutions and clarifications are found. Resolutions and recommended policy changes will be presented to the H&I Subcommittee when they are reached, dissolving the need for the adhoc to meet.
The adhoc committee has met twice since the last H&I subcommittee meeting with great success. The following topics were discussed and will be presented to the H&I subcommittee next week:
1. Does a facility that has received a H&I “new contact facility presentation” need to be “voted in” by the H&I Subcommittee?
Most of the concerns with this issue centered on making sure that the members giving the initial presentation (Chair, Vice Chair, Panel Coordinator, or a qualified member appointed by the Chair & Vice Chair) follow the WSC H&I Handbook Guidelines concerning new facilities. After discussion, the consensus was that no policy exists currently to require a facility be voted in. Members also agree that creating a new policy was not necessary.
2. Who elects the H&I Subcommittee Chairperson?
Consensus was reached on the following proposal to present be presented at the Subcommittee:
To change GOASCNA Guidelines “B. General Elections 1. Nominations for Area positions are solicited in June. Nominations are to be closed at the July ASC and elections will be held. ASC elections are to remain in conjunction with RSC elections.” To read: B. General Elections 1. Nominations for Area positions are solicited in June. Nominations are to be closed at the July ASC and elections will be held. ASC elections are to remain in conjunction with RSC elections. In the event of an unexpected vacancy or new Area elected position opening up, the position will remain open for at least one month following announcement. This will give all Area members an opportunity to be informed of the vacancy, prior to a qualified member being nominated/elected.
3. Does language adjustment and/or a clarifying statement need to be added to the Panel Leader requirements
M. 1. (n) Must attend two consecutive subcommittee meetings prior to being elected.
Consensus was reached on the following proposal to be presented at the Subcommittee:
Remove Line (n) from the Panel Leader requirements, and change GOASCNA Guidelines “IV Hospitals and Institutions Panel Leader requirements M. 1. d) Two months of activity in H&I work, consisting of at least two consecutive H&I Subcommittee meetings and observe at least four meeting/presentations.” To read: Two months of activity in H&I work, consisting of at least two consecutive H&I Subcommittee meetings within the last two years, and observe at least four meeting/presentations.
4. Does a policy need to be created concerning the amount of literature that Panel Leaders take in to H&I presentations (including meeting lists)?
Discussion was held. No resolution at this time. Lisa and Jenny were tasked with creating an orientation/training handout concerning this topic, for review at the next Adhoc.
The next Adhoc meeting is scheduled for Sunday 5/5/2013 at the “Italian House Restaurant” immediately following Area.
All members agree that discussions held at the Adhoc concerning policies will not be addressed at the H&I Subcommittee until they are resolved within the Adhoc.
Thank you to all H&I members and Area Administrative Staff who attended the previous two adhoc meetings.
